Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Captain Ron

I never caugh this before. When Paul Anka tells his secretary they're going to get a local captain for the Harvey boat, the secretary says "A local in San Pomme de Terre?" and tosses the Harvey folder in the circular file.
In French, a "pomme de terre" is an "apple of the Earth", a potato.

Mrs Harvey mentions it when Martin tells her about the boat.

"Pomme" does mean apple, but it refers to any plant has rounded edlible ends.
I guess "patate" island wouldn't sound as nice.

In the arrival scene in San Pomme de Terre, the customs agent has a potato on his desk.

            The story is king.
