I did not know this at first, but there was a lot of problems during production of this film. Just like Mark Webb's Amazing Spiderman 2 it is the child of a movie company getting involved in the movie too much and not allowing the director to have control. Fincher did not do Alien 3 his first directorial debut to me will always be Se7en. Don't let this meh movie fool you, Fincher is one of the best directors out there.

It has elements of a Fincher film. But it's a studio plant.
Yeah, definitely a studio plant. But it has Finchers trademark way of filming. When I saw S7ven I could tell straight away Fincher was the director.
The greatest trick the Devil played was convincing people he didn't exist.. -

It's really a shame. You can tell from the movie that he's trying to explore really interesting ideas but he couldn't go all in because of the studio. I would've loved to see how the movie wouldve turned out if Fincher had full creative control over this. Might've been as good or even better than the first alien!

Seeing as most of Fincher's subsequent movies are based in reality (ok, Benjamin Button notwithstanding) dissing this as not being a 'Fincher film' is kinda unfair to the film.
If he hadn't made this film but someone else did and did it exactly the same, it would be the best 'Alien' film David Fincher never made.
