Anyone who considers themself a fan of this franchise, should watch the film at least twice.. and watch the assembly cut at least once.

The only one I've ever watched once is AVP Requiem for obvious reasons.

Form the sound of your last paragraph, it seems you like the theatrical cut better than the Assembly cut. That's rare to hear, more power to you though.

No i've only ever seen the assembly cut, but anyone who saw the theatrical cut should definitely give the other version a try.

There's one thing better in the theatrical cut. You see the dog scene. The ox scene might feel like it adds more 'meat' to the film because it's more extensive but a dog is man's best friend so it seems more tragic. Although, with all the religious metaphors in the film, I understand the choice of an ox. I'd love to be able to write more philosophy, more scenes, in to this film. All the acting talent, all the atmosphere was there- it really could have enhanced the epic tragedy. The fundamentals of Alien3 are strong. This was the first Alien film with a very heavily industrial feel. It actually appears to tap in to Ridley Scott's upbringing where I was born in the north east of England, the steelworks. Each Alien film is a metaphor for something or other and this, to me, was a metaphor for, if you like, Brexit country, Trump's country- the forgotten people, prisoners of economics, of distance, of laissez faireness and, yes, also often of their own apathy.

I haven't seen the dog edit, but it seems to make more sense. The smaller and faster nature of the xenomorph, and the fact it hunts only to eat this time around.. I like the scene where they're hanging the ox though.
Interesting you mention the Trump/Brexit thing and prisoners of economics.. people seem to have a heightened interest in this film lately.
