This film is totally underrated! I feel it is one of the few things Chris Columbus could be proud of writing! Love it. Love it. Love it.
The actors were perfect in their roles! In the scene where John Candy sees Ally making up the corpse to look like Babe RuthI actually shed a tear! He was a dynamic actor and a great loss before his time. The film is beyond funny the rest of the time. Maureen O'Hara Steals the entire movie, once again showing herself to be a Hollywood Gem! Nobody but Jimmy Belushi could've played his cop partner. NOBODY. That part had to be written just for him. Even Ally Sheedy, playing the emotionless-on-the-outside love interest who was just full of emotions was an in-depth character. I could've seen very few actresses today who would have pulled that offmaybe Dunst or Portman.
In another 10 or 15 years this movie will be ripe for a remake, with very few changes. I hope it does this FUTURE CLASSIC FILM justice.
That's my opinion. Everyone's got one

I agree - this is a sweet crowd pleaser. A little unappreciated gem. Sheedy is likeable as always and Candy is a good romantic lead. I like the sweet Candy in the Hughes productions rather than the more bawdy Candy of the Harry Crumb films. O'Hara is a great evil mother archetype - a paternal Nurse Ratchet. It is hard to execute this level of genuineness.

I love this film. It's wonderful to see a love story between "unconventional"
looking actorsas if only the "beautiful people" fall in love. Candy and Sheedy are beautiful, and the characters they play have real heart. More films
like this should be made. It isn't a silly romantic comedy; it has a heart. -

You know, I just finished watching this film and throughout I couldn't help but think why this was rated 6, at least on here. It deserves a lot more. I would give it at least an 8. This was a wonderful film. John Candy was an amazing actor, and this film had soul.
