LOL, their characters didn't look like they were 16 in it, more like 14 tops for Leo and 15 for the girl -

I wonder if this was filmed a year or two before it was released. Leo looked about twelve in this and the girl only a year or so older. Mind you, Leo still looks very young for his age and he's approaching his forties!

It must have been filmed a couple of years before it was released I did the math too, and had him at about 15 He's always looked young, but had I not known better I would have guessed he was 11!

Leo looks like he's 12 years old in this one.
Hell, in "This Boy's Life" (1993) he looked 13 yet he was around 18 when he filmed it.
Leo's got a lot of years on his looks since he's reaching 40 now but can still pass for a 28 year old.
