Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Eerie, Indiana

    lpokeefe — 21 years ago(January 23, 2005 09:41 AM)

Using a highly "scientific" rating system, I rated all the episodes of "Eerie" out of 10. I found out that "The Lost Hour" is the best episode, with a rating of 9.6/10; and I found out that "America's Scariest Home Videos" was the worst with a rating of 5.3/10. The episodes with the best acting were "Reality Takes a Holiday", "Zombies in PJ's" and "Broken Record." The highest emotional resonance in an episode was "The Dead Letter" and the funniest episodes were "No Brain, No Pain" and "Foreverware." Any comments? Post 'em. Let me know your faves.

Wow, I think I pretty much agree with your ratings 100%. I was particularly disappointed with "America's Scariest Home Videos," because I was hoping for an all-out Eerie Halloween show.

Yeah, I like "No Brain, No Pain" a lot too. It has got to be the funniest Eerie episode of all time.

It's hard picking a favorite, but The Lost Hour is definitely right up there. But for Highest Emotional Resonance, I'm going to have to disagree and go with "Heart on a Chain". I love the way it begins and ends in the cemetary. Plus, I have always been a sucker for "first love" stories. My only beef with it is in the very next episode ("Dead Letter," another favorite, I might add), Marshall's already over it and pining for another girl. The other funny thing about these two episodes is they both involve a romance cut short when the boy gets hit by an Eerie milk truck. What's up with those Eerie milk truck drivers??? Acting was definitely top notch in "Reality Takes a Holiday," an episode I'd never seen before the DVD release. And I'm sorry, but I've always had a soft spot for "America's Scariest Home Videos" simply because it was a Halloween episode, and I love Halloween. One category I didn't see listed here was "Eeriest" episode. I'd have to go with "Mr. Chaney" (another episode, by the way, that I never saw until the DVD release. I must have missed a lot of the last season!)
I'm so glad they came out with the DVD. I watched it when it was first on, and now I watch it with my kids. My daughter loves saying, "Thank you little paper boy."

I dont remember what it was called but it was the one where everything this girl drew became real. I thought it was really sad that she had such a hard life with her moronic brothers and dad when all she wanted was her mom.

Several other episodes kicked ass, and some were just decent, but that's the tops baby.

I like Reality Takes A Holiday but I think that it was a little overrated. It certainly did present a good "eerie" atmosphere but the character writing was a little off.

My favorite episode was, I don't remember the name of it, but it was the one when Simon's little brother went inside the T.V. movie. That episode was hysterical.
I also like the one with the atm machine and Mr. Wilson.( I think that was his name). 99 bottles of beer on the wallLoL!

The episodes referred to were "America's Scariest Home Videos" (which I dislike) and "ATM With a Heart of Gold" (which I also dislike) respectively.

I think the best episode is "The Losers" and the worst is "Just Say No Fun," followed by "Scariest Home Videos."
I think the Joe dante and Tim Hunter episodes are the strongest, plus "Reality Takes a Holdiay." "The Dead Letter" and "Heart on a Chain" are the most compelling emptionally. "The Lost Hour" is an interesting episode as well, but I think it's hurt by a cheesy '80s pop score and the fact that it's too similar to an episode of the new Twilight Zone, but the idea of people seeing through the face on the milk carton is really intriguing.
I lived in Indianapolis from 1976-2003, so the show was a bit resonant for me, especially since my family is all from New Jersey. I moved to NYC in 2003. A friend who lived in Bloomington until February 2005 before moving here told me that Indiana just passed Daylight Savings Time, but is still debating whether to be Eastern or Central. Indiana is always on Eastern Standard Time, but during Daylight Savings Time, it is equivalent to Central Daylight Time. Just hope our family and friends don't disappear when the legislation passes!

My favorite episodes are "Foreverware", "Heart on a Chain", "The Dead Letter" and "Broken Record". Foreverware is so very Stepford Wives and I have a love for that sort of thing. I like Heart on a Chain because of the romance, that's very intense for junior high kids, I might say. The Dead Letter's good because of Tobey Maguire and its romantic value. And Broken Record I think is the creepiest of all the episodes. It's haunting to me that the very last scene in the series is Simon singing "We've Only Just Begun".

My favourite episode is Just Say No Fun.
It's an episode I've never forgotten. I thought it was a marvellous idea, having a school optician brainwashing the students into model pupils with the eye tests she gives. Cracking.
Reality Takes a Holiday gets second place. So ahead of it's time. I just wish Joe Dante had actually directed the episode. It would have given it even more resonance.
A lot of people dislike Scariest Home Movies but I think it's great fun. Not to mention clever that the mummy that comes out of the TV is only an actor.
The Lost Hour is creepy beyond all measure, and actually makes me thankful we don't live in Eerie that forbids you from putting your clocks ahead.
I have great affection for the ATM machine because Mr Wilson was a genuinely sympathetic character. I felt really sorry for him in the end.
The Losers is more interesting than entertaining, so now we have an explanation of where things go to when we can't find them.
The Dead Letter is notable because it features a young Tobey Maguire, and a very surreal dream sequence that was like something out of Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Pity it didn't do them more often.
The only episode I really hate with a passion is No Brain, No Pain. The episode feels so lazy and stupid, and was the only episode of Eerie Indiana that got me bored.
Apart from that, a brilliant series.

I liked this show when I was young. Can't remember much of it. But I must say my fav episode is "Dead Letter." It was very sad, and the last time I saw it years ago I realised that Tobey Maguire was in it. 🙂
