Yes I admit I saw this one first, but there are definite reasons why this one is better than the original.
The editing process speaks for itself, how they got the right word in with the right movement and expression on the kids faces is beyond remarkable.
I find that certain scenes are either an incredible fluke or award deserving script writing to a one in a million shot. Notice how when Julie is thinking "as soon as I can walk I'm getting out of here" her eyes speak the dialogue? and in the end when she says "I thought you hated me.your always mean to me and stuff.." or when Mikey says in the cab "yeah I think I did" or in the office: "you mess with my mother, you mess with me" its just perfect for those scenes? Even Mikey's friend Eddie's expressions work.
Consider the psychology behind what it takes to get these all inline with the script and story line, everything fits.
This was not the case in many scenes in the first movie, you could tell a lot of it was off the cuff. Sure it had its moments but it just does not gel like this one.
The makers definitely had the experience by the second film to know what they were going for and how to work with what they captured on film and this deserves credit. I just can't believe this was overlooked the way it was. Whoever criticizes this film is not really WATCHING it.
