Today I was watching BTTF3 and a thought popped into my head.
Was Marty always destined to be in a car accident?
In the original 1985 the car was wrecked so he couldn't use it to take Jennifer to the lake but there was no mention that the trip was cancelled due to the totaled car.
Or was it his actions in BTTF1 with his father growing confidence in himself and becoming successful and buying the 4x4 for Marty cause the accident with the Rolls Royce?

Nah, the trip was definitely cancelled. They talk about it - "I needed that car Dad" "Believe me Marty, you dont need all the headaches of going up to that lake" etc.
People are crazy and times are strange

Ummm.. It was "Believe me Marty you don't need all the aggravation and headaches of playing at that DANCE." The dance, not the car or the lake. George was referring to the pinheads being told by Huey Lewis that they were too loud so they didn't get to play at the school dance.

In BTTF Part 2 and Part 3 Marty was given a character flaw by the writers. He would challenge people whoever called him coward, this is why he was involved in a car accident in the original timeline. You see what would have been the car accident near the end of Part 3 when Marty is in the truck with Jennifer and Needles challenges him to a race. While in 1885 Doc mentions to Marty about the accident and how he shouldn't go challenging people when he gets called a coward thus changing Marty's future where he isn't in a car accident.
Also we will probably never know about Marty and Jennifer not going "up to the lake" because Marty went back to 1955 thus changing both his father's and family's future.
