Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Prime Suspect

    Patricia-14 — 17 years ago(January 24, 2009 08:16 AM)

Over the past couple of weeks my boyfriend and I have been watching the Prime Suspect series from the beginning. We've just finished "The Scent of Darkness" (using subtitles, mostly for his benefit) and we're both left wondering: What does A.M.E.T. stand for? They refer to it often in the show, but never define it, and I can't find a definition via google other than it seems to refer to the Metropolitan Police in some way. Can anyone enlighten me?
    Thanks!

Patricia..AMIT stood for Area Major Incident Team and was a response team of dedicated or specialist police that would move quickly to investigate serious crime. I believe AMIT was disbanded on the recommendation of the McPherson report after the Stephen Lawrence murder.
Never heard of McPherson report or Stephen Lawrence, but very grateful for the AMIT info! Thank you!!

FWIW, here's the wikipedia article on the Stephen Lawrence murder.
