The protest group didn't think too much about their name, did they.
A name change might be needed if all they care about is the black lives that cops kill.

Black Lives Matter means any time a cop touches a black man, it's police brutality. It doesn't matter if it's a justified shooting or not. Cops = guilty. All the time and every time. People who say "Black Lives Matter" do not look at each case individually or care about the fact black men kill more black men than cops do.

Those incidents are already acknowledged to be illegal and/or sad.
The point is to protest injustice that is legal, accepted, and overlooked.

You are taking a leap here and associating being Black with a thing that is so out-of-context with and completely unrelated with the state or identity of being Black. Do you not see how this is racist?
If someone said "Respect Jews," would you retort, "How about Jewish men who rape women like Harvey Weinstein?"
If someone said "Treat woman with chivalry," would you retort "What about women who kill like Aileen Wuornos or women who cut off penises like Loraine Bobbit?"
The latter two responses do not sound like natural retorts that someone would say.
And it's not just you. It's a societal problem. So, you're either benevolently racist or subconsciously racist. Acknowledge it, and move forward.
If someone says, "I'm black and I matter"
And you say, "BUT CHICAGO GANGS," it's the biggest non sequitur in the world.
