Too bad so many people are picking this movie apart. I take this movie for the message it's trying to get across. Much is based on the letters written home by Shaw and the respect he had for his men of color. As I have seen this movie over 18 times and still feel the power and message it try to get across. It's not only a tribute to Shaw it is also a tribute to his men and the respect he has towards them. Enough respect to lead them in the Battle of Fort Warner his final battle where he lies to rest with his men.
