I know (and have experienced) that hair loss occurs sometimes when there is severe emotional trauma.
But once the trauma is over, the hair grows back within a year! Why was Ron bald afterwards, even though he was still a young man?

Bald? He had long hair from the time he came home till the end of the film!

He wasn't completely bald no, but it was all receded on top. He seemed to lose it when in the terrible trauma in the war, but it never grew back like before.

          OR
it just started receding naturallyas it does to millions of men around the world every year. Look how young Nicholas Cage was when his hair started receding - before he got hair plugs. He didn't go through any trauma.

I agree, and do see what you're saying.
It just seemed, in the film, that Ron's hair began to fall out in hanks right after he was severely wounded.

Plus, he looked SO old when he first came home! Wasn't he around 21 when he joined up?
              He returned looking around 40!

it was male pattern baldness or alopecia due to stress, stop over analysing, it's all totally feasible
