Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Back to the Future Part II

this movie was so horrible. just retreaded the first classic and literally crapped all over it. MJ Fox playingh is own family was like something out of a sitcom that jumps the shark, like Peter Brady meeting his "twin" at school. people have a strange sense of nostalgia to rate this crap so high. they obviously weren't the people who were actually THERE or born yet, who saw the original on the big screen and then sat through this crap-fest.

It is entirely possible some of the people who were THERE when it came out actually enjoyed it perhaps never having seen the alternate reality thing done before in a mainstream movie was appealing or the fantasy of going back in time to see yourself and make yourself rich or going back to the events of the first film and seeing what was actually going on around the events the entire time was novel and fresh.
Also when it came out a date like "2015" could still sound and feel futuristic so the first bunch of people seeing it would have an easier time enjoying it then than now, today's audiences have the challenge of pretending that's the future still. Personally I can think of few films with such an energy to them and so much packed in it, one of the best sequels of all time.

What a bizarre statement. This movie is pretty well-liked. It's not even the worst one in the series.
