Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Simpsons

I'm aware that a good idea is not enough. It has to be well-developed. The dialogues have to be witty, the script must be captivating. For instance, this year's Lisa's Imaginary Friend had a great premise but fell flat.
Still, since it seems to have been difficult in the last years to come up with the Halloween/scary themes, here are some ideas from posters that I hope Simpsons' writer will steal ! They are welcome to do so. It's never too early to start writing. Here are some new idea for free !
-Something with Baba Yaga the walking isba a witch used to chase a young girl in the forest.

    • Something with the Mexican Day of the Dead imagery.
    • You can always revisit Psycho.
-Something loosely inspired from the Drop of Water sketch in Mario Bava's The Three Faces of Fear. You can even try to make it funny (and scary).
    • From the same film, play with the Vurdalak myth !
    • A skit about how it is difficult to find a costume without offending anybody, nowadays.

      Krampus
      It Follows
      Blair Witch
      Purge
      Halloween
      Friday the 13th
      Scream
      Scream Queens
American Horror Story (seems iffy, but it could be done. Imagine if the entire episode was devoted to, like, three seasons of it? all three segments?)
      Stranger Things
      When a Stranger Calls
      Cabin in the Woods
El Dia de los Muertos (good idea OP!)
      Sharknado
      Lights Out
      Babadook
      Boogeyman
      Woman in Black
      Men in Black
      House on Haunted Hill
      children of the corn
      Sinister
      Urban Legend
      Supernatural
      Buffy
one of those ghost investigation shows like "Most Haunted"
      Cowboys Vs Aliens
      Cowboys Vs Dinosaurs
Jurassic Park (eh, maybe. If it's done right.)
Sleepy Hollow (movie or tv show)
      Interview with a Vampire
anything by M. Night Shymalan is ripe for a parody
      Hotel Transylvania
      Wickerman
      Shutter Island
      the Invisible Man
      Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Rose Red (or something that parodies the Winchester mystery mansion)
      Night at the Museum
      The Mummy
      Casper
      Corpse Bride
      Gremlins/Critters
      Labyrinth
      I Am Legend
      Stargate
      Dr Who
Guardians of the Galaxy (It could be really really good if they did it right)

They've already done some of those in the comics. The Guardians one was kind of lame so I would like them to redo that (though I would like to see it in a trilogy episode that focuses on comic book movies).
            Some other good ones where:
Jaws - Blinky the 3-eyed fish is the shark
They Live - but the sunglasses show everyone as sketches.
            The Gremlins one was fun
Nosferatu - Burns is the vampire
            Evil Dead
The Ghostbusters one they did this year would have been awesome for the show.

The comics have done a pretty consistently good job. They had the guy with the living tattoos, and the evil, sentient Christmas tree as well.

Can't believe there hasn't been a IT / Pennywise one. Maybe in the next year or 2 when the movie comes out

You know, it's funny. IT never scared me. And I was totally afraid of clowns as a kid. But IT would make an excellent parody. Maybe they haven't done it because of the Chucky Parody they did with the Krusty doll? They would probably seem kind of similar Not that after 28 years it seems to matter to the writers. (After all, how many times have Homer and Marge gotten remarried now?)

The Krusty doll thing was actually a Parody of the Twilight Zone episode, Living Doll.

Well had their Vows re-renewed, soI guess twice?

they had their original wedding, their (divorced) second wedding, the nice wedding that Patty and Selma ruined which ended with a courthouse wedding, and I could swear there was another one in just the last two or three years, which I remember because I wanted to slap somebody. But I searched, and I can't find it. I was probably thinking of Dangers on a Train or something.

When did they divorce? And don't say "Every Man's Dream" because that episode was just an explanation why a female character had a certain Tattoo.
As for Dangers on a Train, that was their Anniversary, I've hear those are important to celebrate at least once a year.

when they first renewed their vows, when Kirk and Luann Van Houten split up, and we didn't know yet that Lovejoy was preaching with an expired license, Homer got them a quickie divorce so that the vow renewal would be REAL. It's why they had to get remarried in season 20. They were no longer legally wed.

Yes, thank you, I'm quite aware that Dangers on a Train is an anniversary show.

I put that and then realized that they did. The opening to season 7, I think. It starts off with galloping hooves and the headless horseman throws a laughing Krusty head. But a longer one would be nice.

                                        Homer:
[as he and the kids run from stampeding rhinos] I'll take care of this! JUMANJI! [the rhinos keep charging] Does anything from the movies actually work!?
Seriously, Jumanji. There's a new Jumanji movie scheduled to be released next July. Regardless of whether or not it's good, if The Simpsons did a Jumanji parody for Halloween, I think it would be well received.
What, you thought I was being serious?

Actually, they've already done Jumanji for a Halloween episode! It was season 22, I think.
