Does anyone know the name of the song playing while she is giving birth? I think the words are all the things we should have done that we never did

I very much agree. Throughout the film I was like okay the film's sort of all over the place..I didnt like certain bits..in a way that could be its charm BUT this particular scene and music.had it been any other certain types of films.. I reckon it would have gotten A LOT of attention. It is just heartbreaking to watch Kevin Bacon in this scene.

Absolutely! It's been awhile since I've seen this film, but that scene and that song is the one I really remember. This film is sometimes a light comedy and sometimes a melodrama, and it rarely works on either count. But the birthing scene was amazing, Kate Bush's music is used perfectly, and Elizabeth McGovern and Kevin Back deliver it convincingly, so to speak. I wish the rest of the film were that good.

Well, the song is written and performed by the ever wonderful Kate Bush, don't think she's made a wrong step once in her career. And the song fits perfectly into the film.

Just for the records: Kate wrote this gem of music specificly for the scene, once Mr. Huges sent the tape with the footage to her in order to guide/help her. And it worked amazingly, didn't it?

By the way, this music is also present in the opening scene (a beautyful one also, must say)of an italian movie called "Cronaca de un amore violato" - 1996. http://www.imdb.com/board/10112743/ -

Whenever I know this movie is on, I always try to watch at least this scene. It's so profound and the music is so perfect. Before IMDB, I spent years trying to find out the name of the song and the artist. Now I have several of her albums, but nothing ever touches me as much as this song. This is one of the best movie scenes I have ever experienced.

I just watched this movie again for the second time, perhaps third can't remember
but yeah what a great scene, I got a little misty but not teary. perfect song to play and Kevin's acting was pretty good.
that's the thing about John Hughes movies, they are comedies but they also have a little drama in them.
Ferris Beuller - the car/who do ya love scene
Planes Trains and Automobiles - you wanna hurt me? scene
Breakfast Club - confessions and opening up scene in circle
She's Having A Baby - birth scene
there will never be a director like him again, not Kevin Smith or Judd Apatow who come close but not too close.
