In both cases, if Freddy killed Alice, he'd also kill himself.
Remember, before Freddy's Dead, the criteria for who Freddy can attack is either A.) They must be the child of those who killed him or B.) He must already be in that person's dreams due to odd circumstances, such as being brought in by a Kristen, Alice, or Jacob. In NOES4, no one else fits the bill but Alice. So the second she dies, Freddy would die too as he can't get into anyone else dreams of but Alice's. Alice is effectively invincible
In NOES5, we learn that a baby dreams with its mother while in the womb. We also learn that Jacob has inherited his mother's powers AND is being force-fed Freddy's. So, Freddy's plot is the use Jacob like he did Alice in NOES4. In this case, Alice is still invincible as Freddy can't actually kill her without killing Jacob in the process. Killing Alice before Jacob is born would result in an instant miscarriage, this leaving Freddy a sitting duck once more.
So, as much as I love Alice, it kinda lowers the stakes for her. Yes, everyone she knows and loves can be taken from her but she herself cannot be killed by Freddy as it would be foolish on his part. She's his only connection to the world until Freddy's Dead, where he somehow learns to bypass this rule by attacking anyone in Springwood.

Yeah but once that baby comes out Freddy can off Alice then use the babies dreams to kill everyone else in town which is why i'm inclined to think that's how the town from Freddy's Dead came to be

well new line released a tie in comic for the franchise that covers the events an wraps up the story from 1-5 alice has moved away an returns to springwood after her father dies an with the help of nancys spirit an doctor gordon defeats freddy once again then they leave the town for good also in the comic freddy wants to use jacobs powers to carry him from the town since hes all most threw with it so it ties into freddys dead an how hes doing the same plot there problems with it is it dosent answer the questions of how freddy is able to enter the dreams of everyone without alice or jacob but its a few years after 5 so we are just supposed to assume he was able to if you want to read the comic its called nightmares on elm street its the cannon timeline of events after 5 according to new line atleast until they make a film that takes place in between 5 an 6

This may all be true, but I'd still never trust Freddy to play by the rules.
You have nothing to lose but your chains.
