I was just looking at the trivia for Blind Date and it said the same thing as the trivia section here says, that it was supposed to be a Madonna-Sean Penn vehicle. It's pretty easy to guess why they backed out: Shanghai Surprise was a major flop and their marriage was falling apart. But apparently, Madonna loved the story so much she made Who's That Girl! I've never really noticed the similarities between the two movies, but they are extraordinary:
1)Straight-laced, successful, dark-haired guy is paired with crazy, blond chick,
2)His entire way of life gets demolished over the course of 24hrs,
3)A beloved car gets all but demolished,
4)Declarations of love are made at a lead character's wedding to someone else (BD-hers, WTG-his),
5)Wealthy, snarky, future-father-in-law, who doesn't seem to respect his child and arguably thinks more of the intended.
I'm sure there others, but it's been a few years since I've seen them both.
