The Running Man is on TV right now and I'm halfway paying attention while making lunch. I loved this movie as a kid, anyone born in the early 80's probably has at least a little nostalgia for it as well-Arnold at his marble-mouthed finest (see: "Gee, that guy was a real hot-head").
But as a lifelong Steven King fan, this movie has so very little to do with the actual novella it was based off of, that if they made a remake now that stuck to the source material, it would basically be a completely different flick. And for anyone who hasn't read it, the book itself is just awesome. Early S.K at his best, most violent and cynical. In fact, anyone who hasn't read all 4 stories in The Bachman Books probably should pick up a copy if they can. There's a couple other stories in there that would make amazing movies too-and it's always weird to find untouched Stephen King gems that nobodies butchered into at least a made-for-TV movie this point.
So anyway-Frank Darabont, everyone knows you snagged the rights to pretty much all of Stephen King work in existence when he was doing that thing in the 80's/90's when he sold the rights to all his short stories for one dollar each (google it). Can you make a proper version of this film? It seems like it could be insanely relevant to the state of the media and politics in this great old US of ours.
Also, someone please make "The Long Walk," one of my favorite pieces of written fiction of all time. I think Darabont owns the rights to that one too. Step it up Frank.
This was my first original post on IMDB after being a faithful user since it's inception. And it's about the Running Man. So, yeah.
