It looked like that to Michael, but kiefer ate noodles. Even if they were eating maggots, that's still food, they are high in protein.

Yeah, that's their only means of substance. I don't think I've seen another Vampire movie or book where they eat food. I could be wrong.

I think their sustenance is blood and lifeforce Benny, their 'food'.
But food, and alcohol, as you and I perceive it is merely a prop to them to use for social integration.
In The Lost Boys I think the Chinese food is to show the consumerist aspect of the 1980s with both product and cultural exchanges blending into the norm - but that's just one take on an otherwise fun story

In retrospect, your right. They wanted to show there supernatural abilities by changing Micheal's perception of the food , from rice to maggots.

Definitely agree with this assessment.
I also think
Lost Boys
is one of the best movies. It was certainly very pivotal and made its mark. I think it will always have quite the following. It stands the test of time. Great casting as well.

Lost Boys was a lousy take on the vampire myth, but to be fair, vampires can eat normal human food (even greasy Chinese American garbage), and they might do so for a variety of reasons e.g., in order to appear "normal". They just don't get any nutritional value from such food. Blood is the only food that vampires need to sustain themselves.

There's a part in the Dracula novel where the good guys find him in his coffin after he's been out gorging himself on blood, and Dracula is all swelled up like a tick…Similar to you or I after a trip to Mickey D's
