Drugs addicts can become amoral that way, but it's not due to a character flaw. The evil one was the dealer.

Yeah Rip was a rat bastard theres no doubt about that but Julian was hardly an angel himself in the situation either. He lied, cheated and stole from both his family and his friends just to feed his drug addiction which in my opinion was the worst I've ever seen both in real life and in the movies.

Well yea just to feed his drug addiction, that's what having an addiction means. There's no nice way of being an addict. It's the nature of the condition to become unresonably obsessed to the point of desperation.
Now I don't mean to make excuses. Maybe I'm just reminded of that 80s PSA, "No one ever says I want to be a junkie when I grow up."

every time I watch this movie I think of my best friend and his own struggle with addiction. he's a GREAT guy - been my rock for ages - but he definitely has his demons. he didnt steal jewellery but he stole a LOT of money from the restaurant where we worked. his addiction made him do it and i dont think less of him because he has a disease.

I mean the way I see it, it's perfectly reasonable and understandable to be angry at addicts and what they do. But eventually, the anger isn't all that productive. You're basically just railing against a person's biochemistry. What is productive is the person getting some kind of treatment and out of the old patterns.

If that's the case, then I pity anyone who's in your circle of friends if any of them became a drug addict. You clearly have no understanding of what addiction really is, and you certainly don't know the meaning of compassion and forgiveness.

I was just about to say the same thing. Its people like that which make it hard for addicts to ask for help. The OP obviously doesn't understand one thing about drug addiction or is just a very self centered individual
