I think, the way thinks have changed, that no-one would touch a subject like this from 12 yards, when all the folks I know back home thought it was fetchin'. And its true, we only get roles as pimps or muscle or studs, or comics or bad boys.. never get decent classic roles. The day I see a black dude in drag in a movie like some like it hot, then I will be happy, as it means other roles opening up to us..

The Onion Movie is kinda similar, but it doesn't have many black actors. One segment does and is hilarious. Give it a try. If you like Shuffle, you'll probably like Onion. Not a lot of messages, but funny nontheless.

I feel like possibly a modern take on this might go a little farther in the story. I expected (based on the description and the pictures on the cover) that Bobby would quit the movie and then make his own studio where he hired black actors to play typically white roles (like Superman), and the main thrust of the movie would be the difficulties he encounters with that endeavor, from people not taking him seriously. I think the movie did well at what it was going for, but I wish I hadn't spent most of the movie assuming the real plot hadn't gotten going yet.
