i feel like platoon is far more realistic than this movie, agree or disagree?

Overall, I think Platoon is more realistic. Full Metal Jacket has realistic elements, but in the Stanley Kubrick style of surrealism.
Fowler's knots? Did you say fowler's knots?

IMO, realism is not the goal of FMJ. This film is about the psychological indoctrination of the warrior.
there has been technological advancement, but how little man himself has changed.

Agree, Platoon is better. Oliver Stone served in Vietnam..

Platoon is far more powerful. FMJ has a great first half but the second half doesn't hold up. It feels like a completely different movie.
