Caine's huge mistake?

-Okay, I don't know if this has been addressed or anything but, WHY on Earth would Caine use bullets from Dent's shooting club? So what if they were "clean", since they were so rare and that Russ Fielding guy is the local expert/bullet manufacturer in town, didn't Caine consider that the cops would question Fielding/manager(s) of the club as Foley ended up doing? Why wouldn't Caine just supply his thugs with regular everyday bullets that could come from any where? Why risk it with rare, custom bullets? Or am I missing something? If you think about it, tracing the bullets to the club gave Foley and the gang the jump start they needed to crack the case wide open in the end and consider Caine and, more so, eventually Dent in the Alphabet crimes. Maybe I'm assuming too much?

Well, if you're missing something then I am too. What you have written is the whole point. Caine used those custom made bullets (probably he simply forgot they were special as he was used to handling them) which became the initial hint for Axel.
That's the criminal's mistake every investigator is looking for, I guess. -

Yeah that's why he gets grilled by the crime boss and asked to fix it by getting rid of Foley. The Beverly Hills police department was extra stupid in this movie for not catching on to his huge mistake of leaving important evidence behind at the crime scene which would have exposed the master plan and brought the crime boss under investigation.

I suddenly started thinking of this scene on the basis that yes Cain was stupid. But, it was made out like Maxwell Dent was a mastermind. But when Foley came in with the Bullet he instructed his men to take out Foley as he was a cop potentially onto him.
It was only by a massive grace of fortune that Foley wasn't really a cop in that city and played going by the rules fast and loose.
Any other police officer would have made notes and said to his superiors that he was going to question the gun club about rare bullets being used in the crime.
And if that officer was gunned down the same day of just going there it would have been obvious to everyone in the police it was related and they'd come down on that gun club like a tonne of bricks.
Plus also Cain was pivotal to their entire plan. As it was a case of rob the race course and frame cain for it with the alphabet codes. So why send him out to kill the cop to potentially get killed or spotted himself. Again what happened with the finger prints.
