Always wondered if Mickey Rourke and DeNiiro actually filmed together.

I have watched this film many times, and I can count the times on one hand that Rourke and DeNiro are in the same frame together.
When they are, it is usually a reaction shot or a couple of lines of dialogue. It seems as if they were filmed separately.
Still looks great, but does anybody else share this?
