One thing I didn't get: Ethan Krusemark says that Johnny took the soul and the identity of the soldier, but he still looked like Johnny.
If he still looked like Johnny, I don't understand why none of the people from Johnny's past recognized him when returned to them as Harry Angel: Toots Sweet, Margaret Krusemark, Ethan Krusemark.
Dr. Fowler obviously couldn't recognize him because he couldn't see his face when he was a patient of his. -

He probably got Angel randomly off the street and didn't know the name.. by the time he was injured in N. Africa they forgot what Angel looked like, but even so, Favorite had extensive plastic surgery due to his wounds

It was still Johnny's body after the ritual because the soldier couldn't live without a heart. Maybe taking the soul changes Johnny's appearance supernaturally. I would only propose this from Kelly's line "he still looked like Johnny to me". In any event, Johnny's face was totally changed after the surgical reconstruction.

He didn't take any soul. He killed Harry and took over his identity and lost his long term memory in the war.
He had sold his soul to the Devil / Louis to obtain fame and tried to hide.
It's a clever movie once you realise it's just a Faust story.
But the important thing is Johnny repressing/forgeting his foul deeds. And slowly being brought to remember, until the jar shatters … and silence … and truth … and goodbye. -

Actually he got amnesia from the shock therapy treatments Dr Fowler was giving him, so he could erase his memory and escape his debt with Satan.
Fowler also mentioned Favorite was covered in bandages from the reconstructive surgery he got.

That’s what they claimed happened, but the Dr mentioned him having experimental treatment that erased his memory, he also had plastic surgery to change his appearance since he was covered in bandages. The war was just a cover story.

You’ll find that AnthonySocksss doesn’t pay attention to films, he’s either playing with his iPhone or his micro, but then comes on here to complain about plot issues that never existed.
Over on Moviechat he thought he’d found a ‘plot hole’ in The Usual Suspects. When it was gently explained to him that it wasn’t a plot hole he flew into a manic rage and started hurling abuse across the site until mods banned him.

What is confusing is how the people from Harry Angel’s life would have reacted - he would now be showing up at Christmas with Mickey Rourke’s face. Wouldn’t Harry’s family, friends and colleagues be like ‘WTF who are you?’
