It was the first movie we watched in my International Film class. I have to say, I cannot believe that I hadnt heard more about this. I dont consider myself an International Film Guru or anything, but it was so amazing - I cant understand how more people havent talked about this as a GREAT Japanese film.
Ok, that was rant-tastic, but I really did enjoy it very much. It was terrificly shot and directed, and I loved the way the transitions from scene to scene worked.
One of my favorite scenes was the Business men in the fancy French restaurant, and only the little lacky guy can read/understand the French, OMG I was laughing so hard, and then all the other, elder, Businessmen had SUCH overly red faces.
This is one of the most enjoyable films ive ever seen. I will be purchasing it ASAP.

This is one of my favorite films. It's a document of the human condition, an epic achievement in it's own modest way. I tried to turn a friend on to it, and he couldn't watch more than ten minutes of it. Oh well, his loss. Glad YOU liked it!

The first time I saw this movie was when I was just a kid, must have been like 20 years ago and videly remember every eating scene because I got so hungry the more the movie progressed.
Many years later I rewatched the movie and it got same effect again, I was so craving for asian food lol. Good thing that I'm half thai and many dishes in the movie I can make myself, so after watching it, I spend the following days preparing the dishes that were featured in the movie
Yummy time! -

I want to add my name as a late entry to the list of "Tampopo" lovers. I was introduced to this film by an aunt who loved foreign cinema, a while back. I revisited it some years later when I went through a food-film binge. Watched it about 2 years back, and just picked up a copy and came here to see what folks are saying. Good to see fans of the movie.
This film is, vernacularly speaking, the bomb.

It's funny I own the DVD but hadn't watched it in a long time. I popped it in reluctantly thinking my taste had probably changed. And it just blew me away ALL over again. Like seeing it for the first time.
I got excited. I got awe-struck. I got emotional (When Tampopo's transformation is complete). And of course I laughed, and laughed, and laughed.
