When Gordon dreams of his brothers funeral and his father saying it should have been him that died, was that something his father actually said to him or his feeling that it's what his father thinks?

In my opinion it was his recurrence of a bad dream, possibly brought on by his guilt at not crying at his brother's funeral.

I agree - I can't imagine any parent saying such a thing. I think it was a projection by the character as to how he thinks his dad feels.

Either way I always thought that was the most creepiest scene of the whole movie!

The dream exemplified Gordie's fear of what his father really thought of him. It was obvious that his favorite son was Denny, and Gordie probably wondered if his father felt that way deep down.

His father never would actually say that, but he certainly gave Gordie the feeling that it's the way he thinks.
What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.
