Is it just me or the character of Reggie Johnson (Junior) is a total complete a**hole?

I think Junior was the worst of the characters, by far! He was downright rude, ignorant, cowardly, lazy, and racist. He would have been better off as a Black Panther. Even near the end when he broke down because Barnes refused to let him go on the chopper, I still couldn't sympathize with him.
Actually, there is one other character that comes close, a minor one by the name of Morehouse. He was the one raping the girl at the village. When Lt Wolfe comes and pays the guys a visit in the hooch, he just stares down at his cards with a cigarette in his mouth and belches. I was satisfied when he was blown up with his own artillery. Maybe Wolfe did call the wrong coordinates so he'd get killed, LOL
And of course Barnes was no sweetheart, but he had reasons for being the way he was and had been in the field for over 4 years.
Okay, my top list of a'holes in the movie, in order:- Junior
- Morehouse
- Hoyt
- Barnes
- Bunny
Notice they are all in Barnes' hooch at the camp boozing and all the good guys are smoking weed? LOL. Good ole Oliver Stone!

Agree, but I'd have to give Bunny the #1 spot reason being I didn't care for his overall attitude and demeanor plus he came off as just being a little bit out in left field with some of his comments. I'd also add Sgt. O'Neil to that list.

Hoyt was the one who, when Taylor went off on them for raping the girls, said "what's your problem Taylor, she's a fcking dink." Dark haired guy with a mustache. And yeah, he was definitely a douche. I didn't like Junior, he was a jerk and a coward, but Bunny was still worse. Junior at the very least had misgivings about what Barnes did in the Village. "A Christian don't go around a village cuttin off heads and sht." And I have to say, Reggie Johnson was fantastic in the role. It's too bad he didn't do much else.
Saying "I apologize" is the same as saying "I'm sorry." Except at a funeral. -

My father was in Vietnam from 1967-1969. He said that there were people like Junior in every platoon. There was always some racist in every platoon. Be it black, white or hispanic.
He thought that the actor who played Junior played the character perfect. -

I know Reggie Johnson didn't have much of a career after this movie and I couldn't picture him playing a character much different than he did in this film. From what I heard, he grew up in South Central L.A. or Compton.

Chris could not or would not do such a thing. The first few months out in the bush, you're a $h!tbird and have no authority against anybody. Even Lt. Wolfe had no power. Maybe if he'd come from an inner-city or country bumpkin background, it would have been different

junior is a whiny lame-ass, but i think johnson's great in the role. the whole damn cast is great. not a lightweight among them. but i'd say the more homicidal soldiers are worse than the cowards. barnes had some depth, but that doesn't excuse his actions as a semi-suicidal psycho, driven crazy by his unapologetic hatred of the enemy. the man had witnessed way too many deaths of his men (notice his scenes when sanderson and sal are killed and they find manny's body) and went bollocks. this explains things, but doesn't excuse them. bunny's a prick, seemingly a young punk set loose to do anything he wants and has now become sadistic and vicious (if he's not killing people, he kills animals). this makes them both worse than junior, who belongs in the coward category. even then, junior takes a backseat to o'neill and arguably wolfe, who are not just cowards, but either total ass-kissers or beep junior's full of beep when he falls asleep on watch and blames taylor, but o'neill talks a lotta beep he can't back up and throws around his slightly higher-rank like he's more important than he actually is. wolfe's no delight either as a pathetic, ineffective leader who's not only scared of everyone, but walked over by freaks like barnes and called out on his beep by real soldiers like elias. junior was someone who just badly needed his ass kicked and sent on his way. he, at least, acknowledges how crazy barnes and bunny are after the village slaughter. junior's irritating as hell, but o'neill and wolfe are just as chicken beep also, barnes shoots eliasthat makes him far worse than junior.

One thing I'll give Wolfe credit for, he was a Westpoint graduate and reasonably intelligent. He belonged in the rear and NOT out in the bush as a Platoon Commander! A logistics or supply officer would have been good for him with a Senior NCO or more seasoned officer mentoring him!
