That's right, this movie has been reproduced so terribly, on DVD. It really needs to be cleaned up and given the Blu-Ray treatment; that would make it so much more fun to watch, especially with the AC/DC soundtrack.

Actually, we should get a Director's Cut, with the original intention of releasing it as NC-17, on Blu-Ray!

The Blu-ray needs an new interview with Stephen King, unless they could bring the original audio commentary from the LaserDisc. Anchor Bay and the Canadian DVD have decent transfers but nothing special.
"I am going to scare the Hell out of You!"-a quote from Stephen King for his movie "Maximum Overdrive" in the original theatrical trailer. Nows that funny. Especially what the movie turned out to be a modern day Camp Classic of the 1980s.

It's too bad AnchorBay doesn't have the video rights since like 2002 or whatever because it might have been on BD by now but last I knew of 20th Century Fox made the last dvd.
But even if AnchorBay did it still might not have any features like most MO fans would like to see.

Just to clear up the matter-Stephen King never recorded an audio commentary for the laserdrisc. That was a rumour that was started somewhere on the internet, I believe. The Phase 4 films DVD (the second release with the cheaper looking cover) actually has the superior picture quality of the two releases. Yes, a blu would be awesome. ANd yes Shout Factory would be ideal and Criterion wouldn't do it and the other boutique companies wouldn't have the resources to get any decent extras. I know that nowadays King would do a commentary if only someone tried hard enouh to get him!

Regarding a commentary: A Special Edition Laserdisc, planned for a spring 1996 release, was to have included one featuring Stephen King. The disc was announced, but later cancelled and never manufactured.

I remember seeing this movie way back on VHS. If memory serves be right, it was pretty terrible. Recall reading around the time, Stephen Kings 'Night Shift'. A collection of short stories. 'Trucks' was what became this movie. Of the stories from that book successfully made into movies was 'Children of the Corn' and 'Cat's eyes'. Lesser success was achieved with the movie and TV adaptions of 'The Lawnmower Man', 'Graveyard Shift', 'The Mangler', and 'Sometimes They Come Back'. If you get the chance, I suggest reading that book. It's really good. Especially the Lawnmower man short story, it's nothing like the awful movie that it spun.
