I have wondered and wondered about the identity of this movie, and just tonight I have found out that its this one, I'm 98% sure. I saw it back in the late 80's or early 90s on TV and it scared me so bad back then. The monsters looked scary then for sure. I googled it and the monsters look like what I remember. But I also distinctly remember the kid waking up, thinking it was a dream, running to his parents room, and then seeing the aliens jumping around on the bed, as though they had eaten the parents.
However, for some reason, I remember the aliens putting a screw or needle in people's necks and then I was under the impression that the aliens implanted something into the people and the people turned into the aliens. So when I was a kid, I interpreted this as the parents having turned into the creatures. it was so long ago though I can understand why I might have misunderstood that scene, when in reality the parents were being eaten.
I really do remember that ending though because it really scared me as a kid, I had a nightmare after I saw it. And Ive read some of the other posts on here so I know other people remember that too. Is there anyone else on her who remembers that? Or is this not the movie? -

LOL.unless the scene I am remembering is actually the nightmare I had as a kid. I don;t think thats the case, but man, I really remember the kid seeing the aliens and the aliens jumping around in the parents room. It was either that the parents had been infected and turned into the aliens (which is how I remember it) or the parents were being eaten.

Unless a scene was cut from the movie, they do not jump around the room. In fact in the scene you describe, they do not actually show the aliens at all, just the kid screaming "no! NO!" as the frame is frozen. With the exception of the evil teacher, no one is actually eaten. But the plot did involve screws as you remember, putting the people under the spell of the aliens. One of the problems with the movie is that they never explain sufficiently why the aliens want to take over the world. There is some talk about preventing exploration of Mars, but that doesn't lead anywhere. Hope this helps you!
