Turns out he was an immortal too. Only he was so ancient he had learned to mask his Quickening. I heard he was a pygmy African shaman who was first born around 80,000 BC. I thought he was just muttering gibberish, but it turns out the language he was speaking is just a long dead tongue:
"Eydint'du nah'theen" means "There can be only one" in extinct pymgy language.
