Back in the late 1970's Gary Gilmore was big news since the public was so angered by his wish to be executed since his murder of that gas station attendant was so brutal and cold-blooded the public wanted Gilmore to fear death, not welcome it.
This fabulous, compelling TV miniseries came out almost a decade after his execution, but it was as if had happened that year, had you watched the serial episodes on television. I remember thinking Tommie Lee Jones gave the most sincere direct characterization of what we remembered of Gilmore. You've got to see this series to believe it. It's almost as gripping as "In Cold Blood" with Robert Blake, and that's saying something. I wish Turner or some other classic network would air this. It's a five star show. Rosanna Arquette is at her trailer trashiest best. Even Eli Wallach shines here and gives reality to the story despite his familiar face and voice. He really was a fine actor, may he rest in peace. But Jones commanded the screen with such a driven intensity you suspended your disbelief and felt this guy was a dead ringer for the psychopath himself.
