Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Black Moon Rising

    Wildcard_58 — 20 years ago(January 28, 2006 09:09 PM)

Well after an exhaustive search I came up with this. Black Moon (The Car) was designed and built by Bernard Beaujardin in association with the University of Concordia, Montreal, Canada. And originally called Concordia II. Now Ive been able to find tons of stuff on The Wraith, Mad Max's "Interceptor", etchowever I have yet to find any real details on the Black Moon Itself. If anybody has any deeper conections to find out chassis, engine, etc would be much appreciated. I can begin to assume its nothing more than a MASSIVE kit kar, most likely running an ole' VW engine. But its the details Im interested in. 🙂

I wish I could help you. The car is in fact the most intriguing thing about this film.
I saw it for sale in an Auto Buyer magazine in the late 80's for about 10 grand. I had never heard of the film at that time, but it made me want to know more. I haven't heard anything about it since then.

About 12 years ago, i saw the car up for sale in an Auto Trader publication. Asking price then was 13,000 dollars. It is a fiberglass body mounted on some cars frame but im not sure which. I am as of now looking for the car to try and buy it. If I locate it I will let you know. If you or anyone you know has the location, please let me know as well.

It's a cool car. Sort of reminds me of a Bertone Stratos.
You might be able to find something from Road & Track. They featured the car sometime in 1977.
I found that and a few pics at: http://www.javelinamx.com/carstars/tvcar2.htm

Somewhere, packed away in my many boxes, I have a coffee table book that has a car that looks a lot like this one. If I remember right, it was a concept car built by Mercedes. In the book the car is white and the rear-view mirror is mounted on the outside of the car in front of the sun roof. I think it was called a "Bulldog" or something to that effect.
Unfortunately, I can't back any of it up because I don't have the book, the title, or the author.

The "Bulldog" concept car is an Aston Martin

You are right about the VW engine. i worked on this film & was friendly with the mechanic who worked on the cars (there were 2 of them). He was a VW specialist.

When I first saw it I thought it was a solar car that was just modded for the movie. It looks very much like some student solar car projects I've seen. I also love the "futuristic" effects like a rear camera. Now every car offers so many gadgets. All I ever think about in modern cars is what will break first?
The other "car things" that I loved about this film were the added car sound effects. The Daytona sure sounded like a V8 and was a LOT louder than I ever remember those cars. As my second car ever my folks almost bought me one of those. Good thing I got them over to the Ford lot instead or maybe not since I got into trouble with my 5L Mustang. I am glad modern movies are a little more subtle with the engine and tire squealing noises added to every scene. They still do it, but in the 70s/80s it was SOOO obvious that it detracts from the movies.

I am fairly sure the Black Moon is the same car Auto Man drove in that 1983 series. But i could be wrong after all the last time i saw Auto Man was.well 1983.
But if i am right, that may help you find more info on the car.

I was less concerned with the car than what seemed to be a Vincent Black Shadow motorcycle in TLJ's apartment. I could only catch glimpses of itanybody else notice this?

Automan didn't drive this car, He drove a modified Lamborghni Countach. A few magazines mistook it for the Aston Martin Bulldog though.
