Is it sad… am I insane?

You're not alone mate. We're just obsessed. Oh well. I do find it ironic, that watching Threads now a days, is rather funny. Odd, but true. I don't know what to say, it just is. Like the refuge the Becketts build in their kitchen. WTF? They had better chances of surviving if they just stood outside.

Then you have to check out the book 'One Second After' and it's sequel, 'One Year Later.' Two of the most realistic books I've read on the subject of exactly what you are into. This series deals with the effects of an EMP.

Blitzed through it. Not bad at all, and a cut above every other teen lit on the market today.
Part one was the highlight for me. Simple but effective, could've easily taken place in the threads verse. The attack was chilling and the family's struggle for survival was harrowing.
The first half of part two started to stretch credibility a little bit. But who knows if it's possible for small pockets of a population to survive in a vault for a few decades. Nonetheless there were some interesting, but mixed themes about authoritarianism and survival. The second half where we meet the surface survivors was great and very few punches were pulled. The communism vs authoritarianism theme starts to really take off.
Unfortunately part three turns a bit scifi and the themes in part two don't really get resolved, atleast satisfactorily. I was expecting the surviving factions to have turned on one another. That the survivors have evolved and created a perfect utilitarian society felt a bit like cheating to me.
It would've been cool to see how Kate and the other surface survivors coped for the first two decades. -
