Hey guys,
I'm by no means a Western aficionado, but I have liked (or loved) most Westerns I have seen. My first Western was Tombstone, and it is probably my favourite.
I've seen, and rate (generally) very highly:
Tombstone
Unforgiven
The Good the Bad & The Ugly
Open Range
310 to Yuma (modern version)
Appaloosa
The Quick and the Dead
True Grit (modern version)
There are probably a few others that I can't think of, but it's not too important.
My point is Given my taste for the genre, and the cast (who were good) I had expected to like Silverado a lot more than I did. I just found it didn't click, the story meandered a bit and it wasn't as tense as I had hoped. I don't mind slower movies, but for some reason that I'm struggling to articulate, this one didn't grab me.
Paden was my favourite character, he had a certain flair that some of the other main characters lacked a bit.
Just wanted to share my thoughts and see if anyone else is in the same boat (or wagon).
Thanks. -

If you like that many modern westerns (or worse-MODERN versions), then I'd say that's your problem right there. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is the best on your list imo, fwiw.
OTOH, it could be that Silverado is too cartoonish for you, and it's lighthearted approach to its violence and its comedy clashed with its attempts at drama and made it hard to take seriously.
I like the movie, but it's not a western that I include with classic westerns. It could have been called "How the West was Fun".
