I remember when it came out, and I wanted to see it, but somehow just never got around to it. Over the years I've heard a lot about it, but still never managed to actually see it. Until yesterday. I had recorded it recently and finally watched it yesterday. I like it!
I think the movie did a reasonably good job of capturing the '30s as far as clothing, hairstyles, vehicles, etc., and the overall tone of the country at the time. Although they also did a good job of recreating a '30s-era movie, I could tell instantly that it was not an actual '30s-era movie. I'm not sure what made that obvious to me, it just was.
By the way, I agree with some other posts about thinking that one actor resembled Edward Everett Horton. Whether that was intentional or not, he certainly did bear a strong resemblance!
