Yeah, Jesse was gay and struggling to come out of the closet. So what? Did viewers want to see the same film as the first?
The film gave us a male final guy instead of a chick, Jesse was a nice looking kid that acted his anguished scenes well, he was tormented by Freddy who was scary, (
even Rod tells Tina in the first that guys can have nightmares too
), and he didn't scream like a girl, he screamed out of pure terror and became a possessed killer.
The film has a cool mid-80's style/aura about it, has some real cool kill set-pieces, (
Schneider's and Grady's death scenes are well set up and disturbing horror like only the 80's could do
) and the film has a dark tense tone that also has an undercurrent of cheekiness to it, considering how preposterous the premise is.
The make-up and visual effects can be a bit phoney looking, especially in the transformation scene, but that was the latex style then and they were still inventive.
If you don't like it because you think its bad, fine! Don't hate on it because you think it's gay. That will only say more about you than anything else.
Norman! What did you put in my tea?
