This is the episode when a professor alters the outcome of the JFK assassination. This might be a stupid question but how come all those things happened when JFK wasn't killed? How did his death prevent all that?

Time was messed up by the professor changing history. The world would have been ripped apart by those tornadoes (as they discussed as they left Dallas). So to compensate, time caused the assassination of Khrushev and the Berlin crisis. They needed a good reason to have history go back to normal.

Replacing JFK in the limo on the day of his assassination and sending him into the future to live as a professor is ridiculous. How is that supposed to get things back to normal ? That's a big change in history that would have serious repercussions in the future. It's JFK who's supposed to die on this day not anyone even from his own descendence. That doesn't make any logical sense. It's a romantic gesture but completely flawed and bound to fail.

It was simply a warning that some things are meant to happen and that if they don't happen then worse things will happen. Sort of like there is a set design to the universe and disrupting it causes very bad things.

I just noticed that the Wikipedia entry on this episode reports that it is being adapted as a feature film with a 2014 release date. I do not see any confirmation of that here on IMDB. Can anyone confirm?

I would not hold my breathe. Schulman, the producer and director(and writer of that episode) has been exposed as a huge fraud and self-promoter. It was probably he himself who wrote that Wikipedia entry. He has now been banned from Wikipedia after he tried to manipulate entries to make himself and his work look better(he started and wrote most of the entries about himself as well).
              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Jneil
He's been known for making fake press releases to stir up interest for his work even though there are no evidence that he got the money or actors signed up that he claims he has.
You can read more about his dubious promotion tactics on his board here on IMDB or boards related to him like his movies Lady Magdalene's(the only movie he made which never even got distribution or made any money) and Alongside Night(will probably never be made after his previous flop).
He used to post on IMDB as well under the name jneil, but left and deleted most of his posts after being exposed for stuff like writing fake reviews on Amazon for his work, using fake blurbs(even quote mined rejection letters to make it look like praise for his movie), claiming he won awards he didn't(and the pseudo awards he did won, he made them look more important than they were), deleting negative threads and reviews etc.

I have stopped responding to trolled posts from Ponzer on any message boards associated with me or my productions, but fair warning to anyone here that this pathetic cyberstalker follows me around the web posting malicious falsehoods about me under dozens of sock-puppet accounts, including this anonymous poster's mirror-image charges that I write under anything but my own name. He and a cohort currently using the IMDb handle Discerning_Taste create dozens of accounts on Wikipedia, IMDb, and Amazon.com for the sole purpose of trashing anything I'm associated with, creating collateral damage to the reputations of the many talented industry professionals who work with me.
My own credits, awards, current productions, and reviews are easily checked on any website that isn't user written or edited.
This person's anonymous libels are like cockroaches, hard to source back to any real person and when deleted by admins are immediately reposted using another sock-puppet account.
Lol, you are stalking ME now!?
If anybody wonders why I took the liberty to quote his entire post, it's cause he generally deletes everything after getting proven wrong or generally realizing what an ass he's making of himself.
Dozens of sock accounts? Really? You accuse ANYBODY who doesn't praise your movie of being a sock(and believe me, that's a LOT of people). You even thought I was this Raranieri guy who posted a harsh review years back.
Neil, face it. Your arrogant, dishonest, bullying and pompous behaviour have not won you many admirers across the internet. And your hypocrisy is mindboggling, like when you threatened to sue everybody on IMDB who pointed out that the reviews on Amazon looked fake for libel, and then it turned out that they were fake.
Anybody who doesn't believe me. Check out his track record on Wikipedia where he tried to self promote his work with lies, and when people protested, he threatened to sue for libel if they didn't write the articles the way he wanted them to be, and now he's banned from Wikipedia.
                  http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Jneil&oldid=44 6630441
Or check out any of the boards related to him on IMDB where there has been a circus revealing countless of his lies and dishonest promotion tricks. The truth is out there for anybody to see.
                  http://www.imdb.com/board/20776090/board
                  http://www.imdb.com/board/10783538/board
                  http://www.imdb.com/board/11667061/board
Just the fact that he deleted all his posts and disappears the moment anybody ask for actual evidence for his claims, speaks volumes(you will noticed a lot of deleted thread and posts if you visit any of his boards).
And NONE of your credentials, awards or reviews are easily checked, since you NEVER provide any evidence for any of it and usually just grossly misquote people or just completely make stuff up. Could you for example prove that Ron Paul quote about your book you're bragging about? If I make a site where it says that Nelson Mandela told me that I was the bravest man he ever met, that doesn't make it true, does it?
But watch him run away without answering a single question or back up any of his claims.

The part I really can't figure out is why he bothers to reply if he eventually always deletes his posts?
Or does he momentarily forget how many times he has lied on these boards and how easily it is to show people the truth about what a dishonest fraud he is?

No it's not. The story I found was on the page specific to this Twilight Zone episode, not the much later King novel.
