If Third Earth is our planet in the far off future meaning that there was some kind of major apocalypse that caused the end of First Earth.Does anyone know what was Second Earth?
    So it's treason then!

In the episode "The Unholy Alliance", Mumm-Ra told the Mutants "I have known of the Eye of Thundera's power for a thousand years! From a time when this was still First Earth!". Second Earth must have existed sometime during the intervening millennium. Second Earth might have been the period following the collapse of First Earth (possibly our world in the present) and prior to the rise of the non-human societies of Third Earth.

So "Third" is a time period. Huh. I'd always just assumed that the "Third" in "Third Earth" was a reference to its postion from the Sun, and took that as evidence that it was indeed supposed to be our Earth.
        As far as I know
        Thundercats
never really went into great detail or explicitly spelled out the history of Third Earth. I'd always felt it was our own Earth many years after an apocalypse of some sort, but we don't get the backstory or see the ruined landmarks ala something like
        Thundarr the Barbarian
        .
'Cause there's thunder in your heart every move is like
        lightning
        !

My memory is a little hazey but I think there was an episode where Mumm-Ra went to Stone Henge. That may be the only landmark from First Earth seen on the show.It would have been cool tho if we saw famous landmarks in the background like a ruined Big Ben or Golden Gate bridge.

I even as a child was slightly taken aback by the term THIRD earth for this reason, I understood the concept of THIRD WORLD nations, I had learned about them to school and experienced it first hand on a family trip to Mexico, I saw the poverty. So the term Third Earth made me think of a world that was impoverished and dirty.

I always thought it was in relation to the planets too.
I could never decide if it was our earth or just a planet that happened to be called earth and third from the sun to make it familiar for children.
If it was our earth then I figured it was set long before humans which makes no sense given the fact mumra had the egyption (can't believe my brain has forgotten how to spell that) motif going on

I have always wondered if "Middle Earth" might come between First and Third Earths? 😉
