I was always bugged by Robin Curtis' hairstyle during her portrayals as Saavik. I don't want to turn this into a "I wish that Kirstie Alley continued to play Saavik" argument. I'm assuming that the women having mullets and perms (or "femullet") was in style back in the '80s, but it just severely dates the movies whenever she's on-screen. Alley's Saavik in
Wrath of Khan
had a more timeless, not so contemporary, and more dare I say, "professional" (instead of trendy) look.
The funny thing is that Uhura's afro in
The Motion Picture
(Nichelle Nichols never sported a "natural" hairstyle on
The Original Series
) seemed to be a dead give away that it was a "'70s movie". -

The make-up choices approved for her in this film are scary. The "darken the sides of the nose and highlight the bridge to make it look thinner" trick is comically apparent here:
