It was hysterical! I think in her drugged out state that woman's over the top hat reminded her of a tea pot due to its shape. That is why she made the comment.
The whole wedding bit in the film was amazing. The parents obviously did not care much for the man and his family. Yet they knew there was not much they could do and their daughter was going to have to learn her lesson the hard way.
It also seemed to me that the sister herself did not care much for the man, but rather loved the idea being a bride and getting all the attention. -

Another theory:
If you go back to the scene where Ginny and Sam are in the bedroom discussing their love lives, there are several photos of tea sets on top of the crowded dresser below the mirror Ginny looks into to apply her lipstick. You may have to pause the movie to see what I'm talking about, but they are on the left-hand side of the dresser.
Tea pots and tea sets have always been a popular wedding gift, especially in the past with certain types of people. I believe Ginny is referring to a tea pot she received as a gift before the wedding. She probably had a tea set on her wedding gift registry and the woman in the church bought it. Many couples receive and open their wedding gifts before the ceromony and give their "thank yous" later. I think the photos are on the dresser because she ripped them out of bridal magazines trying to decide which one she liked best. -

The teapot was probably a bridal shower gift, which would explain the sister's thanking the giver at the wedding. She was such an airhead it is unlikely she wrote thank you notes.
I could be a morning person if morning happened at noon.
