I love the movie, it is fun summer flick, and now I know where Cruel Summer song stems from.
The meta subject of this movie - is - who would be willing to go into fights with someone, knowing that we might seriously harm the other person.
Our sea gull kick might not only kill them but make them life long paralyzed from the neck down immobile invalid. Who would live with that burden and stay sane for life?
The movie does not tackle into this ethical question.
Since it is pop corn flick. -

The whole movie was questionable,I'm pretty sure any attempts to purposely harm an opponent would be an automatic disqualification and sanctions on the dojo instructor.
