I hated the fact that Paul just walked out on his wife and 2 sons! He totally blows off his responsibility as a man to his children basically saying who cares how they turn out. Not to mention that Maria is any man's dream come true she is beautiful and intelligent and caring.
So Paul is a jerk by me but when you think of Paul you cannot discount that he is a WW1 survivor and in turn is a very damaged man. So can we blame a man who has lived in carnage for being totally rational? I cannot.
Secondly did anyone find it odd that the day before Paul bolts he finds a murdered naked woman that looks exactly like his first and true love (I think her name was Martina the Gypsy looking woman who left town)?
What other purpose was that MURDERED AND NAKED (assume sexually assaulted) woman in the script?
