The purpose isn't to attack cities or military bases but target our satellites. There's not an option for the US to not respond. No one else has done this and it would make their first-strike capabilities utterly devastating. There is no mutually assured destruction if that happens.

      Before that satellite hits orbit,
      Putin hits the coffin.
Without strife, your victory has no meaning.
Without strife, you do not advance.
Without strife, there is only stagnation.

Did Putin actually do this? It seems like that would violate international agreements on nuclear weapons.

Apparently Congress has recently been briefed by the IC in SCIFs about it, but naturally they're limited in what they can reveal in statements afterward. There seems to be credible Intelligence that he's either planning or in the process of doing it. And yes, it would violate international treaties in no uncertain terms, which I doubt he cares about at this point.
It's interesting because of the options it leaves everyone else. There's wait-and-see, and then it's too late by the time he's done it, or we race him to it and break these treaties ourselves, or we confront it now and ramp up to WWIII.

There is no crime in Russia. They haven't had any murders for decades. They're just a very accident prone people. Probably from all the vodka.
