Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Conan the Destroyer

    divisjoseph — 9 years ago(June 27, 2016 07:20 PM)

So the same actor played the wizard in the original and the sequel, but in "The Destroyer" it seemed as though he and Conan had never met before. Was he reprising his role from the first film or simply the same actor playing a very similar role? It's always seemed to me to be the latter, opinions?

I haven't seen this movie in awhile, but what are you referring to that makes you think it seemed as if they had never met before? I think it was Conan's idea to find Akiro so they could use his magic to fight the villain(s) magic.
In fact, when Conan mentions that they need magic (after being asked why they changed course) Malak instantly says "Akiro" (of course we don't know how Malak knows about Akiro as his character wasn't in the first movie, although it implies that he had similar experiences actually experienced by Subatoi).

You know you may be right, I grew up on Arnold movies and its been at least 10 years since I have seen this one. Growing up I saw this many times and I just was always under the impression that he acted like a whole new character but maybe I was wrong. I just found it online and watched the meeting scene and it gave no indication either way. I spose I could watch the whole thing again but to be honest I really didn't care for this movie enough to sit through it as an adult. Conan the Barbarian however is awesome.
Patchmyballs69- yes, whether or not I am right or wrong the narrator at the beginning of both films is definitely the same voice.
Oh and totally off topic, but Manowar is freaking epic! Huge part of my teen years.

Not really : "I need you" => "I'm yours" . Would you answer like that to a stranger ?

Not saying you're wrong, but to a stranger who just swooped in and saved me from being cooked alive I might answer like that.

                Watch it again.
Soon after their trek begins, Conan wants to make a detour. A conversation/disagreement ensues between Conan and Princess Jehnna. Conan insists that they'll need help countering the magical powers of the evil wizard who guards the jewel-key. As Jehnna reluctantly concedes to Conan's wishes, Malak exclaims out-loud, "Akiro!" The very next scene features cannibals carrying Akiro toward a fire just as Conan arrives.
                Watch the scene here:
Conan the Destroyer playing on the Sundance Channel in September.

They knew each other, watch it again and pay attention to everything said right before they get to find him with the cannibals.
