Finally just saw this movie in its entirety.
The driving scene that follows the bed scene was long. Excluding the part where they accidentally crash onto the runaway, not much happens. I get what they were trying to do at this point - cinematic-wise. But it didn't add to the suspense or eerie atmosphere it was trying to achieve. Nothing was built upon in these scenes - not even decent characterization. It was like filler and it made me feel real sleepy and couldn't wait to get to the end of the movie. That or I had real strong urges to stop the movie altogether.
Also, there have been a few times that Vicky or some other character highlighted that Burt's
smart
. Based on his decisions on this film, I didn't see any of that intelligence. To me he was a pretty much incompetent adult - even in the end he would have been useless if it wasn't for that kid.
I just got into Stephen King recently. I started with his
Dark Tower
series (I'm on the second book right now) because I'm a fantasy freak. And I was shopping around for opinions from friends on the next book to buy. This was years back and one of them had already gotten far into DT and told me about it. I bought the book then based on his recommendation and another friend's, who read a short of Stephen's, which was the basis for
Shawshank Redemption
. She told me Stephen King has a interesting way of spinning things. Anyways, it was only recently that I got down to the book. I love it so far. So, since then, I've been curious about Stephen King screen adaptations. I've seen a few already. I happened to really like the second/third part of
Rose Red
. I like
Christine
. I like
The Stand
somewhat.
Silver Bullet
was ok.
Riding The Bullet
was unnecessary.
Creep Show
I think I need a day to feel like watching it.
And so- I was really hoping
Children of the Corn
would be something. Especially since it's such a cult film with many spawns. Here's how I would summarize my experience:- Premise is awesome. Still is today.
- Execution of this is. . a higher bar could still be set.
P.S. What movie is it with the kids with the light hair and eerily colourless eyes? I've seen snippets of that before. For some reason, I always associated them with
Children of the Corn
.
((I've already seen
Shawshank Redemption
and
Stand by Me
years before I fully acknowedged Stephen King's relationship with these. In my younger years in the 90s I also saw
Cujo
,
IT
and
The Lawnmower Man
. As far as I remember, I enjoyed it then. Not so sure of it now as an adult. Going to re-watch these, but I wanted to see the Stephen King ones I haven't yet first.))

About the movie with the kids with light hair and strange eyes I think that is
"Village of the damned" there is one from 1960 and one from 1995.
I haven't seen them but I seen pictures and those kids aren't easily forgotten.

Yes, Village of the Damned is the movie you are thinking of. And older, from 1960, black-and-white. A wonderful movie that I wholeheartedly recommend. It's the sequel, Children of the Damned from 1964 is the same premise and not bad either.
