Barbra Streisand hit the ball out of the park on this one! Yentl is one of my favorite movies from the 80s. Absolutely beautiful cinematography, gorgeous songs, and fantastic performances, particularly Mandy Patinkin's. Streisand clearly put her heart into this movie and the results are all on the screen. I admire her dedication to getting the movie made despite all the obstacles she faced.
My favorite scene is when Yentl reveals her true self to Avigdor. The acting is so powerful here that it brought tears to my eyes. My favorite song is Papa Can You Hear Me? Reverent and beautiful. -

The movie is emotively most powerful throughout, not only because of the music, but the music is absolutely perfect and plays a huge part. The ending is at once intensely bitter (the way Avigdor came up short on discovering the truth) but also tremendously uplifting and inspiring (the way Yentl found such strength and resolution in herself).
