Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Yentl

Avigdor and Yentl should have had their heads shaved(except for the "pais").

I guess Barbra and Mandy didn't like the idea of having all of their hair cut off or maybe they never saw a Jew or even a picture of one from that time and place in history. 😉

Every single movie made about the past is an "imagining" piece of how a time and place was, not a black & white rendering of it. Gosh, how dull every historic tale would be.

Why would making their haircuts realistic result in a "dull" movie ?!
Not doing this is pandering to not making them look too ethnic.
I'd love to see Barbra in with shaved head and "Pais"!! 🙂 lol.

Why? With hair, she looked a bit "Annie Hall!" Personal opinion, but I think she looked better in drag.

They were not Hasidic Jews. If they had been, Hadass and her mother would have been incorrectly dressed. Their hair styles, etc. as well.
