I'm constantly re-playing the scene in the parking lot at the supermarket:
    -Come on mom
-Wait over by the car, honey
    -Come on!
-Wait over by the car, honey
    -No, come on!
-Wait OVER by the CAR, honey
    -But
-WAIT OVER BY THE CAR HONEY, OVER BY THE CAR, NOW! NOW! NOW!!!
    hahahaha I find this hilarious!

Sure, it's hilarious. Especially followed by John Lithgow telling Debra WInger, "Nice kids. And you're great with them too."

Oh my - it is my absolute fav funny scene in the whole movie! Apart from the obvious sad scenes, I always think of this scene when I think of this movie.

I am watching the movie now and that was the scene that was just on. There were lots of comic scenes in the movie. In the trivia section it mentioned that he hired Shirley since she was the only one that saw this movie as a comedy.

Yeah it's funny and it makes me happy that that same kid got eaten by the shark in Jaws .

I love this film and I'm watching it right now. The scene just happened where she is telling him to go to the car, except I don't find it funny. He's a little brat and I just wanted to slap him. But then again I'm not a kids kind of person.

One of the reasons why I love ToE is it succeeds just as much as a comedy as it does a drama. Not only is it funny, but it's offbeat and unpredictable. But yeah, I love this scene too, especially when a perturbed Emma still refers to Tommy as "honey" while she's
                      screaming
                      at him.

I don't know if funny is the word I would use and I would DEFINITELY not call the kid a brat.
Tommy always understood more than the adults knew. He knew things weren't okay between his self-absorbed parents, and the reason he wouldn't go to the car, was that he sensed something was going on between his Mom and this stranger.
