One of the few times H.wood got it right in having a remake better than the original.
Not only better but far superior.
Like I re watched the orig to see if there was anything I missed to see if I could like it.
      Nope.
Still boring with very little action.
As best as I recall it was pretty much just, “OK we got it trapped in that room. Let’s electrocute it to death!”
So I agree with your reviews with both versions.
The JC one had me on the edge of my seat.
      Literally.
Horror movies don’t usually do that for me.

A great movie and I find it hard to decide whether this or Alien is my favorite. Have you seen the 'prequel' that takes place in the Norwegian camp after they dig up the thing? It got panned by critics but I thought it wasn't too bad.

What is the name of the prequel? I didn't know there was one.

Watch it and judge for yourself but I felt that it was crummy, overdone and the CGI efx don’t match up to the awesome practical ones.
Like there was something too clean about them where with the practical they looked raw and gritty which is how it should be.
I tried a couple times and felt like they were forcing too much so I changed the channel.
Plus I felt like we got enough of the backstory in the first one.
It bombed and for good reason.

I will check. Thought it was a remake for the 2nd time.

I agree, an excellent film! Currently the debate is which one of the two, if either, is the thing at the end.
